Using the Chart of Accounts in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Overview

The Chart of Accounts (COA) in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the foundation of the accounting structure. It contains all General Ledger (G/L) accounts used for financial transactions, reporting, budgeting, and analysis.

Accessing the Chart of Accounts

How to Open the Chart of Accounts

  1. Open Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Types of G/L Accounts

Posting Accounts

Transactions can be posted directly into these accounts.


Heading Accounts

Heading accounts are used for grouping and organizing accounts.

Examples:

  • Current Assets
  • Operating Expenses

Heading accounts do not allow direct posting.


Total Accounts

Total accounts summarize balances from other accounts.

Viewing Account Entries

To see transactions posted to a G/L account:

  1. Select the account
